Mytholohy
The main characters in myths are usually gods, supernatural heroes and humans. As stories, myths are often endorsed by rulers and priests and closely linked to religion or spirituality.
Prospero’s Books, inspired on The Tempest by Shakespeare.
These are the twenty-four books that Gonzalo hastily threw into Prospero’s boat as he was pushed out into the sea to begin his exile.
Portraits
Portraits are a speciality of mine. In oil, acrylic, watercolour and pencil. Here you find some of the many portraits I made. Much of them are commissioned.
Horses
Horses are animals who are indispensable for humans and they share a unique relationship with each other. In the old days and at the present. The horse has offered humans his strenght and loyalty and in return I want to show his beauty and speed in my paintings.
Still lifes
In May/June the garlic is harvested and sold in the French Provence. Because they intriged me, I started painting them. And so I went on, fruits and vegetables became subject to paint.
A contemporary combination of abstract and realism in acrylic, or classical realism in oil
I mainly work with life models. My mythological paintings are a combination of abstract and realism, my still lifes are realistic. When I work in big formats I love to start first in an orgy of colors. In this chaos my figures arise, then calmness again returns. For my still lifes I use the death paint technique, also called Verdaccio.
People, all living things, the market, the things around you, a phrase from a story, those are my inspirations. That is how mythological paintings of still lifes are born. Or small gadgets, such as jewelery. I love old masters such as Gustav Klimt, the Pre-Raphaelites, Laurens Alma Tadema, but also the Dutch and Flemish masters. And do not forget the beautiful illustrations by Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac and Aubrey Beardsley. They are my favorites. All masters in a magical realism. Recently I started making a Ball Jointed Doll and I wrote the book about this process "How to create a Ball Jointed Doll". Please contact me for a commission, a buy or more.
Karel Habets (Minerva Academie): "...I am impressed with your paintings and also with the story. The combination of agility and the text makes it very strong! Fantastic!"
People, all living things, the market, the things around you, a phrase from a story, those are my inspirations. And that is how my paintings and jewelery, are born.
